The Weld Space is an Award Winning business set up by Richard Evans (Plymouth Live ‘Young Business Person of the Year’). It is part of RichCraft a Bespoke Furniture business and allows him to providing a teaching element which he has found to enjoy. Richard is the main tutor at The Weld Space and provides the direction for the short course programme.

Richard comes from a furniture making background and specialises in the manufacture of bespoke metal and wood furniture. He is proud to continue to teach at Blackhorse Workshop a community workshop. Where he regularly takes on bespoke furniture projects in London and around the UK.

Richard set up RichCraft Furniture in 2017 as a way of unlocking his desire to design and make handmade furniture. His interest lies in simplifying furniture without compromising on his aesthetic values of clean lines, functionality and playfulness. His unique and production pieces are both useful and beautiful and designed around his bold contemporary style.

RichCraft has secured several high-profile press features over the years and has been named as “one to watch” by On Office magazine. His designer furniture has been featured in the Sunday Times alongside established names in the business.

The Weld Space provides high quality creative courses for the public to enjoy. You can take part whether you are a complete beginner in metalwork or an experienced maker just wanting to try a new discipline in a focused way. Our course experiences have been acknowledge by the Devon Tourism Awards as Commended in Experience of the Year category and we believe are one fo the great things to do in Plymouth.

We will provide the equipment, material and instruction and through our short courses you will glean an understanding of welding techniques and fabrication in order to create your own product or object to take away with you.

Alma Yard is one of the newest attractions in Plymouth and has amazing facilities to host groups or individuals. When you take part in a welding lesson we are able to provide basic kitchen and restroom facilities so you will be well looked after throughout the day.

Alma Yard is a revitalised rope factory, comprising of a series of buildings dating back to the mid 19th century and home to a community of creatives drawn to Plymouth’s burgeoning arts scene. It is part of Eat Work Arts growing expanding network of properties.

Located on an iconic coastal rise, the site’s period features such as an original car lift are illuminated by streams of natural light and lofty spaces. These unique facets enrich the studios and workspaces, becoming the backdrop to this new and inspiring Eat Work Art location.
