Welding and Creative Workshops in Devon
Our courses are focused around learning the skill of Welding in addition to teaching people to how to create and make metal furniture. Our popular furniture making courses run over one or two days and allow you to learn about welding and how to apply this to making furniture or objects from metal.
The Weld Space is proud to provide creative high quality education and you will receive 1-2-1 instruction in the use our workshop equipment and machinery. Our classes our small groups of no more than 4 people allowing everyone having their own equipment for the day. We provide all the materials, equipment and PPE for the courses. With the day structured in a fun, social and relaxed way that allows you to explore welding at your own pace.
The courses programme takes place in our fully equipped workshop at Alma Yard a revitalised rope factory, which comprises a series of buildings dating back to the mid 19th century and is home to a community of creatives including The Weld Space.
Once you have completed a course you are part of The Weld Space Community and can use our Bench Hire Scheme to design, create and make your own metal furniture projects. All our courses are suitable for beginners.

Introduction to Welding

This one-day course will introduce you to the basic skills needed to MIG and Arc weld. You will develop new welding skills, understand the machines and tools used in metalwork. By the end of the day you will make a metal pen pot.
Fundamentals to Metalwork:

This welding course focuses on the basics of MMA (Arc) & MIG Welding processes and covers 3D fabrication skills in order to create your own plant stand. This course is perfect for anyone looking to build frames, structures or furniture.
Studio Stool Course

This one-day course will introduce you to the basics of metal fabrication processes, including MIG welding and tube bending, to create a contemporary stool. This course is commended by Devon Toursim Awards for Experience of the Year.
The Welding Weekend
Join us for 2 days of Welding and making. You will learn and practise the three main welding processes MIG, TIG and MMA Welding. Then apply these skills to create your own Chair.
This course is perfect for DIY enthusiast, aspiring makers or anyone interested in exploring welding and making in depth.
If you’ve completed a course already, this is the perfect next stage to explore a different welding process and make something large.

This evening class will introduce you to the basics of TIG Welding and finishing. You explore the differences between welding carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminum.
1-2-1 Welding Lesson

A 1-2-1 welding lesson for individuals looking to improve their welding skills or learn more about a specific process. 1-2-1 Sessions are available for MIG, MMA (Arc) and TIG Welding. Minimum 3 hours.
