Creative courses in metalwork.

 

Plymouth has rich heritage in Defence and Marine engineering with Metalwork and fabrication finding a natural home in the city. The Weld Space has been created to allow people to engage with this heritage in a fun, creative and informal way.

The Weld Space in partnership with RichCraft Furniture has developed a range of creative courses which allow people to learn to weld and understand metalworking skills. Our short courses run from 3 hours to a full day.

Our welding courses are designed around making a product or object using metal and wood. They are high quality sessions aim at delivering a creative fabrication experience for adults.

Participants will learn and use metalworking equipment, understand different welding techniques and fabricate a product. All of this will be done under the guidance of an experienced tutor.

The Weld Space is based at the revitalised rope factory, Alma Yard which comprises a series of buildings dating back to the mid 19th century. It is home to a community of creatives and based not far from Plymouth’s Barbican.

How do I sign up to a course?

We handle our bookings via our website using a system called Stripe. When you find the date and course you want to join. “Click” Click here to book” and check out.

Can I cancel a booking.

Terms and conditions will apply at the time of booking. Ultimately we are flexible and want to make sure you can attend your course. We will always do our best to accommodate any unforeseen changes.

Is there parking on site?

Unfortunately, Alma Yard doesn’t have on site parking at the moment and the parking restrictions don’t allow you to park outside. There is pay and display parking at the Lockyers Quay or Barbican Harbour Car Park.

How many people attend each course?

We like to keep the teacher to learner ratio low so that the quality of our courses remain high. We have 4 welding bays available. Each person has there own welder, PPE and equipment for the day. A maximum group is 4 people per course.

Do I need to be familiar with welding?

No prior experience is required with metalwork or any other making discipline. Our courses are designed in a way that anyone can join them and learn to weld. All we ask is that you come with enthusiasm to learn.

I want to practise more?

For past course attendees we can make a welding bench available for you. You can hire a bench for half a day or a full day and make use of some of the machinery we have. Richard will be around to help through-out the day. Book a Bench Here.

Welding Bench Hire at The Weld Space.

Once you have completed one of our courses you are part of the The Weld Space community. This entitles you to come back and hire a bench and use our machinery.

We operate a Pay as you Go system so you can hire a bench for as long as you need. Be that a half day, whole day or week and longer if required.

You will have access to our Machinery and tools so you can get on with making your own projects as simply as possible. If you don’t have a project and simply want to practise no problem we have plenty of scrap metal available.
